Pre-owned gold coins, also known as second-hand or circulated coins, are investment coins that have been purchased and later resold, for example through our sister company Inkoop Edelmetaal.Â
They contain exactly the same amount of pure gold as a new coin. Popular coins such as the Krugerrand, Maple Leaf, Vienna Philharmonic, and Kangaroo are regularly available as pre-owned variants. The only difference? The price.Â

What happens if a coin has minor damage?
Minor signs of wear, such as micro-wear on the edge, do not affect the gold value. Only in the case of severe damage may the market value differ slightly. The Silver Mountain only offers coins that meet strict quality criteria.
Do I have to pay tax when selling old gold coins?
Investment gold is exempt from VAT in the Netherlands. This means you do not pay VAT when selling your pre-owned coins. However, you must declare them in Box 3 of your tax return, just like any other assets.
Can I sell pre-owned coins from an inheritance or from abroad?
Yes. You can also sell coins that were not purchased from us via Inkoop Edelmetaal. Every coin is checked for authenticity, weight, and gold content before we make an offer.
