How do you verify the authenticity of Lady Fortuna gold?

The authenticity of a Lady Fortuna gold bar is not determined by the design alone, but by the combination of origin, packaging, serial number and any digital verification. A well-known design can be copied, so checking only that Lady Fortuna appears on the bar is insufficient.

PAMP typically supplies the bars sealed in a CertiPAMP assay card, a secure packaging that also serves as a certificate of authenticity. PAMP developed CertiPAMP in the 1990s. The card contains, depending on the version, the weight, the purity, a serial number, a QR code and the signature of an independent Swiss assayer.

There is also VERISCAN, a technique that records and compares the microscopic surface structure of a bar, similar to a fingerprint.

Note: Not every Lady Fortuna is VERISCAN-compatible. That only applies to registered versions whose packaging or certificate bears the VERISCAN logo and the associated QR code.

What does the LBMA have to do with PAMP?

PAMP is a refinery on the LBMA Good Delivery List, but an individual Lady Fortuna retail bar is not separately "LBMA-certified." That status applies to the refinery and the large professional Good Delivery bars that meet the international market standard, not to every single consumer bar.

The producer's international reputation does support the recognizability and trust in the gold bars, but it does not rule out additional authenticity checks when purchasing.

Is the Lady Fortuna investment gold or a collectible?

A regular Lady Fortuna is primarily physical gold, whose value mainly depends on the weight, the fineness and the gold price. The design and the packaging additionally influence the premium you pay at purchase. The price structure can be simply summarized as the metal value plus a product premium.

The metal value follows the current gold price, while the product premium consists of, among other things, production, packaging and trading costs. For a detailed struck bar that premium can be higher than for a simple cast bar with the same gold weight.
