This 1/4 troy ounce (7.78 gram) gold (99.99%) Britannia coin is newly minted by The Royal Mint. The coin contains four security features and has a face value of £25.
This gold 1/4 troy ounce Britannia coin is a new addition to the iconic Britannia series from the Royal Mint. The Royal Mint struck its first Britannia coin in 1987 and since then, many have been added. This Britannia consists of 1/4 troy ounce of fine gold and has a diameter of 22 mm. As with all the other Britannia coins is this Britannia coin seen as a legal tender and therefore has a nominal value of £25.
The 2021 edition has something special. 4 security features have been added and these make it extremely difficult for others to counterfeit the coin. The 4 added security features are a latent feature, surface animation, micro-text, and tincture lines.
The obverse of the Britannia coin shows a symbol of a nation created by Philpip Nathan standing next to a shield bearing the Union Flag. The Union Flag is the flag of the United Kingdom. An olive branch is also depicted and it represents peace. The obverse of the Britannia coin is also the side to which the security features have been added.
The reverse features the effigy of King Charles III. Around him are various inscriptions such as 2 POUNDS - the face value of the coin, CHARLES III - the name of the king and D. G. REX. F. D. - the Latin portion translates to: by the Grace of God, King.
As mentioned before, 4 security features have been added to the Britannia coin. These security features make it incredibly difficult for other parties to counterfeit the coin. These 4 security features are:
Latent feature: a hologram effect where the padlock changes into a trident when viewed from a different angle.
Surface animation: Micro details created by special laser engraving on the coin that give the visual effect that the waves are in motion.
Micro-text: the inscription DECUS ET TUTAMENin English 'an ornament and a safeguard', around the Britannia effigy was created by means of special lasers.
Tincture lines: a traditional art form in which colors and patterns are depicted on metal.
