Information
1/4 Troy ounce gold coin Britannia 2026
This gold 1/4 troy ounce Britannia coin is part of the iconic Britannia series from the Royal Mint. In 1987, the Royal Mint struck the first Britannia coin and many have been minted ever since. This Britannia coin consists of 1/4 troy ounce of pure gold (99.99%) and has a diameter of 22 mm. Like all other Britannia coins, this coin is also recognised as legal tender and therefore has a face value of £25. The smaller denomination makes this coin more affordable and easily tradable.
Since the 2021 edition, the Britannia coins have something special. Four security features have been added that make it extremely difficult for other parties to replicate the coin.
Design of the 1/4 troy ounce Britannia gold coin
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Britannia Coin features a symbol of the nation, designed by Philip Nathan. Britannia stands next to a shield bearing the Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom. An olive branch is depicted next to her, symbolizing peace. This side also features the latest security features, providing the coin with additional protection against counterfeiting.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin features a detailed portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions: CHARLES III – the king’s name, DG REX FD – the Latin abbreviation for “By God’s Grace, King”, and 2 POUNDS – the face value of the coin. The design reflects both tradition and craftsmanship.
Additions of security features
As mentioned before, 4 security features have been added to the Britannia coin. These security features make it incredibly difficult for other parties to counterfeit the coin. These 4 security features are:
- Latent feature: a hologram effect where the padlock changes into a trident when viewed from a different angle.
- Surface animation: Micro details created by special laser engraving on the coin that give the visual effect that the waves are in motion.
- Micro-text: the inscription DECUS ET TUTAMENin English 'an ornament and a safeguard', around the Britannia effigy was created by means of special lasers.
- Tincture lines: a traditional art form in which colors and patterns are depicted on metal.

Investment score
Products with an A-rating are among the most commonly traded and liquid options available. Due to their global recognition, they are typically easy to buy and sell.

Due to their global recognition, they are typically easy to buy and sell.
Products with a C-rating are primarily valued for their collectible characteristics. This may include limited editions, unique designs, or historical significance. As a result, their price is often less closely tied to the underlying metal value. These products are typically chosen by collectors rather than investors focused on efficiency.
