Information
Gold Lunar coin 2023 of 1/2 troy ounce
The 1/2 troy ounce gold coin Lunar 2023 from the Lunar III series is based on the year of the rabbit 2023. This popular fractional coin is struck in 99.99% pure gold and comes in a special clear acrylic coin capsule to protect the coin from damage.
The Lunar III series
The Perth Mint is currently issuing its third Lunar series. Following the success of the first two series, Lunar III was launched in 2020. Each year, a new coin will be released featuring one of the animals from the Chinese zodiac. The year of the rabbit 2023 is the fourth coin in this series.
Design gold Lunar 2023
Obverse
The obverse of each gold Lunar III 2023 coin features the same design. The centre of the coin - designed by Ing Ing Jong - features a detailed rabbit jumping in various types of grass. Around the rabbit are added references to the Chinese zodiac calendar, such as the text "RABBIT 2023" and the Chinese sign for rabbit. The "P" of The Perth Mint has also been added on this side of the coin.
Reverse
The reverse side of the gold Lunar 1/2 troy ounce coin shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, among other things. Various inscriptions have also been added on this side, including the coin's weight "1/2 oz", the gold content "9999 Au", the text "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" and the face value "50 DOLLARS".
Lunar collector coins & the Chinese zodiac
The Perth Mint's Lunar collectible coins are based on the Chinese zodiac calendar and the great Chinese race. This zodiac consists of 12 animals and every 12 years this calendar repeats. 2023 is in the sign of the rabbit. According to Chinese legend, each animal influences the personality of people born in the year of that animal. People born in the year of the rabbit are intelligent and creative, according to the legend.

Investment score
A B-rating indicates products that are still widely recognized and tradable worldwide, often issued by reputable mints or refiners. However, the price per gram or spread is generally slightly higher compared to A-rated products. While still suitable for investment purposes, they are not the most cost-efficient option available.
Label informationProducts with an A-rating are among the most commonly traded and liquid options available. These coins and bars offer a strong balance between a competitive price per gram and a low spread, making them well-suited for investors who want to acquire physical gold or silver efficiently. Due to their global recognition, they are typically easy to buy and sell.
Products with a C-rating are primarily valued for their collectible characteristics. This may include limited editions, unique designs, or historical significance. As a result, their price is often less closely tied to the underlying metal value. These products are typically chosen by collectors rather than investors focused on efficiency.
