Lunar 2027 Year of the Goat by The Perth Mint

The Lunar 2027 Year of the Goat is the latest release in The Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series III. Each year, this popular series celebrates a different animal from the Chinese zodiac. In 2027, the goat – the eighth animal in the zodiac – takes centre stage. The annually changing designs and wide choice of precious metals and weights make the Lunar series popular among both investors and collectors.

The Lunar 2027 design

For the Lunar 2027 Year of the Goat, The Perth Mint has created two different designs. The gold and platinum coins share the same design, while the silver coins feature their own design. Both designs are dedicated to the goat and include the Chinese character for goat and the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’.

Design of the gold and platinum Lunar 2027

The gold and platinum coins feature a single impressive goat at the centre of a natural landscape. The goat is depicted in detail among rocks, with a distinctive tree in the background. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s well-known ‘P’ mintmark.

Design of the silver Lunar 2027

The silver Lunar 2027 features a different design, depicting three goats in a mountainous landscape. Two adult goats and a young kid form the central scene, complemented by a flowering branch. The Chinese character for goat, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also feature in the design.

This gives the gold and platinum editions on the one hand and the silver editions on the other their own distinctive appearance, while clearly connecting them as part of the Lunar 2027 Year of the Goat release.

Part of the Australian Lunar Series III

The Perth Mint launched the Australian Lunar Series III in 2020. Since then, a new design has been released each year featuring the corresponding animal of the Chinese zodiac. The 2027 Year of the Goat follows the 2026 Year of the Horse.

The combination of physical precious metal, annually changing designs and a wide range of editions makes Lunar coins attractive to both investors and collectors. You can collect the same weight each year, combine different editions from a particular year or choose a Lunar coin as an investment in physical gold, silver or platinum.
