The front of the coin depicts St. George on a horse. In this well-known image, Saint George is depicted with a dragon that he would have killed. Here the dragon is a symbol of paganism and St. George is the one who, by beating the dragon, also ensures the conversion of pagans to Christianity. Apart from the year 2020, there are no further texts on the front of this gold coin.

Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the reverse. Traditionally the queen of the United Kingdom is depicted on these coins. The 2020 Sovereign uses the design of Jody Clark from the Royal Mint, this is the most recent image of the queen. The reverse of the coin also has the Latin text "DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF", or "By the Grace of God, Queen".

This coin has a pink or red-colored glow. That is because the coin is beaten in 22-carat gold and the rest of the coin contains copper. The color of the copper ensures that this coin gets this glow and looks different than a coin made of pure gold. The advantage of this content is that coins that contain copper are more robust and are less likely to get scratched or damaged. Fine gold is quite vulnerable.
