After CIT had already issued two Fabergé coins in 2020 and 2021 in memory of Russian jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, this exceptional issue honors another of his works - the Rosebud Egg.
The motif shows the rosebud egg standing in a frame. In the background are numerous rose vines and the inscription "Peter Carl Fabergé - Rosebud Egg" and the year of issue 2022. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Mongolian National Bank, as well as the weight, fineness and denomination.
Designed in 1895 by Michael Perchin under the careful eye of master jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, the Rosebud Egg was a gift from Tsar Nicholas II to his wife Alexandra Fyodorovna. It was meant to remind the Tsarina of the beautiful roses she so missed in her homeland. The original is covered with red enamel painting and decorated with colored gold. Four bands of rose cut diamonds run vertically across the egg and both ends of the egg were also set with diamonds. It is now in the Fabergé Museum in Saint Petersburg.
Using Smartminting High Relief, the minted 2-ounce silver coin very authentically recreates the famous work of art. The commemorative coin comes in the original box including certificate of authenticity.
