The coins have been minted by the Chinese Mint since 1983 and depicts China's most important protected animal: the giant panda. The coin is loved by investors for its weight and purity, but also with collectors because of the annually changing design and smaller mintages compared to other investment coins. The worldwide mintage is limited to 8.000.000 pieces.
Since 2016 the Chinese Mint produces the Panda coins, both gold and silver, in a weight unit of 30 grams. In the previous years the Chinese Mint produced the coins, like every producer of investment coins, in the weight unit of 1 troy ounce (31,103 grams). Up to 2009 the total mintage of the panda coins was limited to a maximum of 600.000 pieces. From 2011 the mintage is at least 6.000.000 pieces.
On the obverse you can see a panda, surrounded by bamboo. The panda tries to climb up on a branch. At the top you see the face value 10 Chinese yuan and at the bottom you can see 1oz Ag .999 – the weight and purity of the coin.
On the back you can see the Temple of Heaven, which can be found in Beijing. Above is the Chinese inscription of the words People’s Republic of China and at the bottom of the coin you will see 2014 – the year of issue.
