The 1 troy ounce silver Lunar Series III Year of the Dragon coin is the latest issue of the Lunar series. It celebrates the fifth animal of the Lunar Zodiac and for that reason depicts the dragon.
Each animal of the Moon zodiac is said to bestow its dominant characteristics on those born during its reign. The dragon, the fifth animal, represents courage, ambition, intelligence and good fortune to those born in 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024.
The obverse shows a Chinese mythical dragon and the reverse shows the Queen Memorial design of Queen Elizabeth II. In its country of origin, Australia, the coin has a face value of $1.
The 1 troy ounce silver Lunar Series III coin comes in a capsule. The worldwide mintage is limited to 300,000 pieces.

Design of the silver Lunar coin 2024
Obverse
The obverse depicts a Chinese mythical dragon with stylized waves and mist. At the center of the design is the Chinese word for "dragon”. Also seen are the inscriptions DRAGON - the name of the coin, 2024 - the year of issue and P125 - a special mint mark for the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint.
Reverse
The reverse shows the Queen Memorial design of Queen Elizabeth II. Around it you will see the inscriptions 1952 - 2022 - the years of her reign, AUSTRALIA - the country of issue, 1 DOLLAR - the face value of the coin, 1oz 9999 Ag - the weight, purity and metal type and ELIZABETH II - the Queen's name.
