The Chameleon coin got its name from the color changing, just like chameleons do, Walking LibertyThis color change gives the coin a beautiful and unique appearance. The Chameleon coin consists of a combination of ruthenium, gold, and a new special coating. Also, the Chameleon coin has a diameter of 40.6 mm and a very low mintage of only 500 pieces.
The obverse of the Chameleon coin shos the well-known Walking Liberty. However, there is something special about it as it changes color when viewed from a different angle. An image of an eagle, designed by John Mercanti, is depicted in combination with the nominal value of 1 dollar on the reverse of the Chameleon coin.
Chameleons are reptiles. There are more than 180 species of chameleons on earth, but a third of them can be found in Madagascar. Chameleons are known for their changing of color. They do this to camouflage and hide from their predators.
