The 1 Troy ounce Platinum Coin British Tudor Beasts Lion of England 2022 Coin, is the second of 10 designs from the Royal Tudor Beasts Collection - From 2016 to 2021, the Royal Mint honored the broad history of England's monarchy and the heraldic beasts that Royal Arms of England have supported. In the new Tudor Beasts series, the Royal Mint offers designs featuring the heraldic beasts and shields of the monarchs of the Tudor dynasty.

The Tudor dynasty was founded in 1485 by Henry Tudor, who would rule as King Henry VII. He had previously led the House of Lancaster in the closing years of the Wars of the Roses against the House of York. Control of the throne of England had swayed between the Lancastrians and Yorkists throughout the 15th century. With his victory over the Yorkist monarch, King Richard III, King Henry VII married Elizabeth of York to confirm his legitimacy on the throne. He reigned as the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty before his son, Henry VIII, ascended to the throne and became one of the most notorious monarchs in English history. The Tudor dynasty ended in 1603 with the death of Henry VIII's daughter, Queen Elizabeth I. This period is widely regarded as a golden age for England.

Design Lion of England 2022

This design features the Lion of England - one of the oldest and most iconic beasts in heraldry. It first appeared on royal emblems in the twelfth century and has been part of the shield of England for as long as it has existed. Chosen to represent pride and bravery, the Lion of England on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace holds a shield with the impaled - or combined - arms of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, symbolizing the strength of the couple's union.

These 2022 1 oz Platinum British Tudor Beasts Lion Coins are available individually in coin cases. Multiples come in tubes of 10 coins or Monster Boxes of 100 coins. All coins are in brilliant, uncirculated condition. The Lion of England design is the first BU coin issue in the Tudor Beasts series.
