Gold 1000 Schilling Babenberger
The Gold 1000 Schilling Babenberger was issued by Austria in 1976 to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the Babenberg dynasty. From the 10th century onwards, this dynasty played an important role in the development of Austria.
The coin has a total weight of 13.5 grams and is struck in 90% gold, resulting in approximately 12.15 grams of pure gold. Its face value is 1,000 Austrian schillings.
Babenberger coin design
The obverse depicts a knight on horseback, based on the historic seal of Duke Frederick II of Austria. The design also refers to the Babenberg dynasty and the anniversary years 976-1976.
The reverse features the Austrian coat of arms with its eagle, together with the face value of 1,000 schillings. The design therefore strongly reflects both Austrian history and the coin's commemorative theme.
