Design of the Koala coin
The image on the reverse side of the coin shows one of the most beloved Australien marsupials, the Koala. Shown here clinging to a tree branch of the eucalyptus tree.

The Koala
A koala sleeps about 18 hours a day. This is because it eats poisonous leaves from the eucalyptus tree, it takes some time to process those leaves. The koala is one of the few animals that can handle this and even smells like the tree.
