The reverse of the Scylla and Charybdis coin shows a boat sailing between Scylla and Charybdis. Scylla was a sea monster on the Calabrian side of the strait, and Charybdis was a whirlpool off the coast of Sicily. One of their most famous victims is the shipmen of the hero Odysseus. Odysseus himself managed to escape but unfortunately, this was not the case for his crew.
