She also joins King Arthur and Merlin as one of three in the second subset of this series that focuses on the Arthurian legend. On this coin you see Morgan Le Fay (also called Morgana), the daughter of Igraine and Gorlois and half-sister of King Arthur. She was a powerful fairy, mage, sorceress (or witch) in Arthurian legend. Morgana is sometimes presented as an evil witch, but she also has a good side. Initially, the oldest folktales shed light on that side, as a healer, savior and protector of the righteous King Arthur. Yet she was portrayed as an enemy of Arthur in almost all stories. Some stories say that Morgana was a student of Merlin, who taught her to use magic in a good way.
