The 2 oz Silver Queen's Beasts Lion 2016 was the first release in The Royal Mint's renowned Queen's Beasts series. The coin contains 2 troy ounces (62.2 grams) of 99.99% pure silver and has a face value of £5. The series was inspired by the ten heraldic statues that stood at Westminster Abbey during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
The Lion of England design
The reverse features the Lion of England, designed by Jody Clark. The crowned lion holds a shield displaying the Royal Arms. The lion has symbolised strength and courage for centuries and has a long association with the British monarchy. The design is accompanied by inscriptions including ‘LION OF ENGLAND’, the weight and silver purity.
The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, also designed by Jody Clark, together with the £5 face value.
