The 2016 silver Queen's Beasts Lion coin is the first 2 troy ounce silver British Bullion coin from the Royal Mint, and also the first in the Queen's Beasts series. The coin is struck in pure silver (99.99%) and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a thickness of 6 mm. This series depicts the animals that stood guard at the Queen's coronation.
The obverse of each coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of the coin shows a lion standing guard at the Queen's coronation. Of course, the lion was not the only one keeping watch, he did so along with other animals: griffin, falcon, bull, yale, greyhound, dragon, unicorn and horse. The animals symbolized the various lines of royal descent, brought together in a young woman about to be crowned queen.
