This 1 troy ounce (31,1 gram) silver Koala coin is minted in 2015 by the Perth Mint from Australia. The silver Koala coin – minted in 99,9% pure silver – is part of the mint’s annual Koala series. The koala is one of Australia's most famous animals.
In 2007, the Perth Mint released the Koala series. Every year the Australian Mint releases a new edition of the series, with every year a renewed design of one of Australian’s most popular animals: the Koala.
On the obverse of the coin is the beautiful image of a koala. Each year, the Perth Mint selects a new image to adorn the coin. This adds to the collectability of the coin in the eyes of both investors and collectors. On the reverse you can see the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II – designed by artists Ian Rank-Broadley.
The coin has a face value of $1 (AUD). The coins are minted to order by the Perth Mint, but usually with a low mintage of less than 500.000 coins per release. The 2015 series has a worldwide mintage of 450.899 pieces.
The silver Koala coins have a special security mark added in the form of a micro-lasered letter that is only visible under a magnifying glass. This to make it more difficult to counterfeit the coin.
On the obverse of this silver coin you can see the koala design. On this edition you see a koala clambering up a tree and looking around with the Australian landscape on the background. Around the koala you can see the inscriptions AUSTRALIAN KOALA – the name of the series and 2015 1oz 999 SILVER – the year of issue, weight and purity of this coin.
On the reverse you can see the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian-Rank Broadley. Around are the inscriptions ELIZABETH II – the name of the queen, AUSTRALIA – the country of issue, 1 DOLLAR – the face value of the coin and IBR – the initials of the designer Ian Rank-Broadley.
