2021 marks the twenty-eighth year of release of the Royal Australian Mint's (RAM) popular Kangaroo series. The title Outback Majesty evokes images of Australia’s arid centre, the epic Never Never and its undisputed king - the ubiquitous kangaroo. The Royal Australian Mint has stunningly immortalised both of these Australian icons on this shimmering Fine Silver Proof Coin.
Packed in RAM's new paper pulp case, this case is lighter and made from Bamboo and Bagasse, meaning that this material is both durable and sustainable, helping to reduce our environmental impact for future generations.
The designer was given an open brief to create a coin that celebrates the iconic kangaroo as the majestic king of the outback.
Obverse: The likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is centered on the obverse, accompanied by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and "2021." The effigy was created by sculptor Jody Clark, the first employee of Great Britain's Royal Mint to design a monarch coinage portrait in more than a century.
Reverse: The reverse portrays a muscular red kangaroo leaping above a dune-textured landscape, with two concentric rings rendered in the background to symbolize the sun. The stylized imagery is the work of the RAM's senior coin sculptor Aleksandra Stokic. Inscribed "1 OZ .999 AG," with credit given to the designer as "AS."
