Information
Silver Britannia coin 2023/2024
The silver Britannia coin is the most famous investment coin from Europe and has been issued by the Royal Mint since 1987. These silver coins were introduced as a counterpart to the gold Britannia coins. We supply coins from the year 2023/2024. These coins are newly minted in 99.9% pure silver.
The Britannia coins are sold under the margin scheme and are legal tender in the United Kingdom. However, the silver Britannia coins are not used within normal payment traffic, but are issued as the silver investment coin of the United Kingdom. For years, the silver Britannia coin has been one of the most popular and common silver investment coins and is easily tradable worldwide.
The 1 troy ounce silver Britannia coins from 2023/2024 are sold per tube of 25 coins or per monster box of 500 coins. In addition to the 1 troy ounce variant, The Royal Mint also issues smaller silver Britannia coins, such as the 1/4 troy ounce and 1/10 troy ounce silver coins.
Design of the silver Britannia
Obverse
On the obverse of the coin, Lady Britannia, the symbol of the United Kingdom, is depicted. Around her are various inscriptions such as BRITANNIA - the name of the coin, the year of issue, 1oz - the weight and '999' FINE SILVER - the silver content.
Reverse
On the reverse is a beautiful image of King Charles III. Around the portrait, various inscriptions have been added, such as 2 POUNDS - the nominal value of the silver coin, CHARLES III - the name of the king, and D. G. REX F. D. - the Latin abbreviation for: by the grace of God, king.
Additions of Security Features
Since 2021, four security features have been added to the silver Britannia coins. These features are made with highly advanced techniques and make it very difficult to counterfeit the Britannia coins. In addition, counterfeits can be more easily recognised based on these security features.
The features are visible on the obverse of the coin:
- Latent feature: a hologram effect where the padlock transforms into a trident when viewed from a different angle.
- Surface animation: micro-details on the coin created with special laser engravings give the visual effect that the waves are moving.
- Micro-text: the inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN, in English "an ornament and a safeguard", around the Britannia image is created by means of special lasers.
- Tincture lines: a traditional art form depicting colours and patterns on metal in Britannia's shield

Investment score
Products with an A-rating are among the most commonly traded and liquid options available. These coins and bars offer a strong balance between a competitive price per gram and a low spread, making them well-suited for investors who want to acquire physical gold or silver efficiently. Due to their global recognition, they are typically easy to buy and sell.

Products with a C-rating are primarily valued for their collectible characteristics. This may include limited editions, unique designs, or historical significance. As a result, their price is often less closely tied to the underlying metal value. These products are typically chosen by collectors rather than investors focused on efficiency.
