The Gold Lunar Year of the Ox 2021 is the second release in The Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III, following the Year of the Mouse in 2020. The coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 99.99% pure gold and has a face value of AUD 100.
The series follows the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, with a new design released each year. The year 2021 celebrates the ox, the second animal in the Chinese zodiac.
Lunar Ox 2021 design
The reverse depicts an ox in a natural landscape, accompanied by bamboo branches. The design also features the Chinese character for ox, the inscription ‘OX 2021’ and The Perth Mint's distinctive ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The surrounding inscriptions include the coin's weight, purity and face value of AUD 100.
