Obverse
The obverse of the coin shows Lady Britannia and Lady Liberty. Both are depicted in a unique way. For example, Lady Britannia with wavy hair and Lady Liberty with no ethical background is on the coin. Around them are the inscriptions BRITANNIA AND LIBERTY - the name of the coin, 1OZ 999 FINE GOLD - the weight and grade of gold and 2024 - the year of issue.Â
Reverse
The reverse shows the effigy of King Charles III. Around it are the inscriptions 100 POUNDS - the face value of the coin in its country of origin, CHARLES III - the name of the king of the United Kingdom and D. G. REX F. D. - the Latin abbreviation that stands for "in God's grace, king."
Lady Britannia and Liberty
In addition to the unique collaboration, the design itself is exceptional. The wavy hair of Lady Britannia is deliberately depicted as a tribute to her historical connection with the sea. Naturally, she is depicted with her iconic trident. Noticeable is the symmetry between the torch and the trident, which unites the elements of fire and water and thus contributes to the duality of the design, as emphasized by Gordon Summers, the chief engraver of the Royal Mint.
Joseph Menna, Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, emphasizes that Lady Liberty on the coin stands as a symbol of opportunities.
