The Lunar coins are minted by the Perth Mint. The kilo coins are the largest issue of the series. The Lunar coin is struck in 1 kilo of pure silver (99.99%). It is the largest coin with a diameter of 10 cm and a thickness of approximately 1.5 cm (!). The Perth Mint also strikes kilo coins of the Kookaburra and Koala coins. Every year, the design is renewed makes these coins very popular among collectors. The silver coins are also a cheap alternative to silver bars as you pay 21% VAT on silvers. Design of the Lunar coin
The obverse of the Lunar coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The country of issue, weight, content and face value are also featured. The reverse of the Lunar coin depicts an ox with her young. They both look at ease and contain subtle details. This gives the coin a simple yet stunning appearance.

The Lunar series is based on the Chinese zodiac calendar. According to this calendar, each year is dominated by a certain animal, with 12 animals in total. This can be seen in the Lunar coin series. every year, the series consists of silver and gold coins with different weights. However, these series are not nearly as popular as the one from the Perth Mint.
