Information
1/10 troy ounce gold Britannia coin
The 2023 1/10 troy ounce gold Britannia coin is the smallest variant in The Royal Mint's prestigious Britannia series. This coin contains 24-carat gold (99.99% pure) and weighs only 3.11 grams, making it an accessible option for investors who want to invest in physical gold in smaller units. Thanks to its compact size, the coin is affordable, easy to trade and recognized worldwide.
This coin is minted by the renowned British mint The Royal Mint and is known worldwide for its purity, reliability and recognisability. Thanks to its wide name recognition, the gold 1/10 oz Britannia is therefore highly tradable internationally.
Advanced security features
To prevent counterfeiting and easily verify the authenticity of the coin, the Gold Britannia is equipped with four innovative security elements:
- Latent feature: a clever holographic effect where the image changes from a padlock to a trident when viewed from different angles.
- Surface animation: micro-engraving creates a wavy effect in the background, creating a unique and vibrant look.
- Micro text: surrounding Britannia’s portrait, the text “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” (Latin for “a jewel and a protection”) is worked into tiny, precise laser engravings.
- Tincture lines: this traditional engraving technique brings different textures and shadow patterns to life, adding extra depth to the design.

Design 1/10 oz gold Britannia 2023

Obverse
The obverse shows Britannia, the national symbol of the United Kingdom. She stands powerfully next to a shield with the Union Flag and holds a trident. An olive branch symbolizes peace; all security features are also incorporated on this side.

Reverse
The reverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Around the portrait is the inscription “ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 10 POUNDS”. This refers to her title and the face value of the coin.
The Britannia design by Philip Nathan symbolises courage, protection and national pride. Thanks to four advanced security features – including a holographic effect, micro text, animated engraving and traditional tincture lines – the coin is highly resistant to counterfeiting. This combination of classic symbolism and modern technology makes the gold Britannia a visually impressive and safe investment coin.
A rich history: the Britannia series
The Britannia series was introduced in 1987 by The Royal Mint and has since acquired a prominent place in the world of precious metals. The coins are available in gold, silver and – since 2018 – also in platinum. At the centre of each coin is Britannia, the female personification of Great Britain, wearing a helmet, holding a shield and a trident. She symbolises strength, unity and national pride, and is therefore a fitting symbol for these British investment coins.
The Britannia 2023 showcases this iconic design combined with security technologies, further cementing The Royal Mint’s reputation as a leading mint.

Investment score
This product has a B-label (Common bullion coins and bars). This means that it is a common coin or bar that is easily tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice. Examples of coins with a B-label are coins with a lower mintage.
Label informationAn A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.
B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.
C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
