The circulation of the Noah's Ark collection is limited to 2 million issues per year for the 1/4 and 1/2 troy ounce coins, 8 million issues per year for the 1 troy ounce coins and 500,000 issues for the larger coins weighing 5 and 10 troy ounces or 1 and 5 kilograms.
The obverse of the coin depicts Noah's Ark surrounded by waves and the Ararat mountains in the background. In the foreground graces a dove with an olive branch, the image for reconciliation and peace.
The reverse side of the coin shows a coat of arms, the year the coin was minted, the face value of the coin, the weight, the purity of the coin and at the bottom it says 'Republic of Armenia'.
The design of the coin comes from Armenian artist Eduard Kurghinyan and refers to the story from Genesis 8:4 of the Bible (Noah's ark). Noah's ark is a whopping 70 metres long, 13 metres high, 10 metres wide and has four floors. The ark had room for eight people, in addition, 7 pairs of all clean animals and one pair of all unclean animals came along in the boat.
The whole earth is flooded by a huge deluge of water. After almost a year, the water subsides and Noah sends out a bird. This bird returns and comes back with a twig. This image, a dove with a twig, has become the symbol of reconciliation and peace. If the dove is sent out again and does not return, all the ark people can return to land. The highest mountain of the mountain range in Armenia was identified as the ark's loading site, largely because it was said to be the first peak to appear when the waters began to recede. This mountain was subsequently named 'the Ararat'.
