Information

Silver Krugerrand coin from 2023 or 2024

This coin is struck in 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams) of pure silver (99.9%) and is attractively priced. The South African Mint has been issuing this coin since 2017 as an alternative to customary silver investment coins from Europe and the United States. Due to the large circulation in which the South African Mint brings out this new coin, the premium is also comparable to other usual investment coins, making this relatively young silver coin an interesting option for the investor in physical silver.

Paul Kruger

Both the name and the design of the silver Krugerrand are derived from the former president of South Africa: Paul Kruger. Paul Kruger was president from 1883 to 1900, and before his presidency he was an important 'Farmer' during the first Farmers War. His legacy is still visible in South Africa, and the Krugerrand is one of the most famous memories of the fifth president of South Africa.

VAT on silver investment coins such as the 1 oz silver Krugerrand 2025

Please note that in 2025 the margin scheme will be discontinued for newly minted silver investment coins purchased in 2025 or later. This makes pre-owned silver investment coins an even more attractive alternative when it comes to investing in silver.

Paul Kruger

The silver Krugerrand owes both its name and design to Paul Kruger, the fifth president of South Africa. Kruger, president from 1883 to 1900, played a crucial role in the First Boer War and remains an important figure in South African history. His legacy lives on in the Krugerrand, which bears his name and image. This coin is not only a valuable investment, but also a lasting reminder of an iconic South African leader.

Design of the 1 troy ounce silver Krugerrand

The obverse of the Silver Krugerrand coin features the iconic springbok, the national symbol of South Africa. The word KRUGERRAND is prominently displayed at the top, while the year is written in two parts on either side of the springbok. At the bottom of the coin is the inscription FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER, indicating the silver content and weight of the coin.

The reverse of the coin has the same classic design as the gold variant and features an effigy of Paul Kruger, the fifth President of South Africa. Surrounding his portrait are the inscriptions SUID-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA, emphasising the coin’s national origins. This timeless and recognisable design makes the Silver Krugerrand a popular choice among investors and collectors worldwide.

Investment score

This product has a B-label (Common bullion coins and bars). This means that it is a common coin or bar that is easily tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice. Examples of coins with a B-label are coins with a lower mintage.

Label information
Investment-score: A-label

Investment score: An A-label means that this is one of our most common products. When purchasing physical precious metals, we advise looking at both the lowest price per gram and the lowest spread. The spread indicates the difference between the buying and selling price. An A-label signifies that this is a favorable choice when buying gold and silver.

Investment-score: B-label

Investment score: A B-label means that this is a common coin or bar, which is widely tradable worldwide. However, a product with this label is more expensive than a product with an A-label, so as an investment in physical gold and silver, this product is not the most cost-effective choice.

Investment-score: C-label

Investment score: A C-label means that this is a less favorable investment choice compared to a product with a higher investment score. Products with a C-label are considered collectibles.
