The 1/10 oz gold Britannia coins are minted by the Royal Mint in 3.11 grams of pure gold (99.99%). This coin has new additions that make it very difficult for other parties to imitate the coin. The security features include tincture lines, micro-text, surface animation and latent feature. The coin has a diameter of 16,50mm.

Design of the Britannia coin

The reverse side of the Britannia coin shows a symbol created by Philip Nathan of a nation standing beside a shield bearing the Union Flag, or the flag of the United Kingdom. There is also an olive branch representing peace. This side of the coin is also the side to which the security features have been added. The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II depicted by Jody Clark.

Additions of security features

As mentioned earlier, 4 security features have been added to the Britannia coin to make it incredibly difficult for other parties to replicate it. These features are:

• Latent feature: a hologram effect where the padlock turns into a trident when viewed from a different angle.

• Surface animation: By means of special laser engravings micro-details created on the coin give the visual effect that the waves are in motion.

• Micro-text: the inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN, in English "an ornament and a safeguard", around the Britannia image was created by means of special lasers.

• Tincture lines: a traditional art form in which colours and patterns are depicted on metal.
